Company Background
The concept for Rivals Barbershop came to Khedron Mims when he was servicing customers at his first barbershop “Changing Faces Barber Shop” located in the Phoenix Shopping Center on Fayetteville Street in Durham, North Carolina. After years of observation showed him that customer’s interests are in sports, mostly NCAA Basketball in the triangle area. They were either Carolina fans or Duke Fans, so Mr. Mims, a Carolina fan himself, started hosting rival basketball parties at the barbershop when the teams face off. The gatherings were so successful that customers would rave about when the next gathering would be.
Khedron Mims noticed that the type of rival that’s in North Carolina between two of the greatest schools in the Nation wasn’t a year to year or month to month rave between fans, but it’s a day to day tug of war.
Khedron Mims is a multi- talented Entrepreneur. It all started in Middle School years, gathering around the kitchen table providing haircutting services to family and friends. He excelled at barbering and was so motivated by his success with customers that he committed to the entrepreneurial call and enrolled in Sherrill’s University Barber School, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Upon graduation Mr. Mims work as an apprentice at Downy’s Barbershop for two years, then decided to open his own barber shop at the age of 22 calling it Changing Faces Barbershop. Changing Faces was a successful venture and five years later Mr. Mims decided to sell his barbershop and start a new company called Telegrams 4 You, a singing telegram delivery service. Telegrams 4 You is successful to 10 this day, but Mr. Mims, whose love for barbering never faded, returned to barbering in 2007.Through experience gained in additional barbershops, Mr. Mims was able to capitalize on his unique barbershop idea “Rivals Barbershop” which opened December 23, 2010 at 121 Sherron rd. Durham, N.C. 27703.
Mr. Mims found that bringing basketball to barbering was and still is a successful and an incredible idea. Rivals Barbershop has an attractive advantage over most competitors because of the ability to cross market directly into an already established billion dollar sports industry market. Rivals Barbershop was able to create an everlasting buzz and to establish brand recognition quickly in the community.
